The Tkhach massif is located on the border of Adygea and Krasnodar Territory. The highest point of our route will be Mount Bolshoi Tkhach, its height is 2368 m, and the length of the wall is 10-12 km. If we go here in May, it will be almost summer-like warm and green, only here and there we can come across remnants of snow - pieces of winter in the middle of the Caucasian summer. In summer we will enjoy flowering, and autumn will delight our eyes with crimson and ocher deciduous forests.

Hike "Teberda-Arkhyz" - this is the choice when you want to spend a few days away from civilization among the mountain beauty. On this trek to the Caucasus mountains, we will overcome several passes, visit near age-old glaciers, breathe in the aromas of coniferous forests and alpine meadows, see picturesque alpine lakes and rapid mountain rivers. We will visit several climatic zones, we will contemplate the peacefully grazing herds and taste the real Caucasian ayran. The Republic of Ingushetia is the smallest and youngest constituent entity of Russia. At the same time, it is located in the heart of the Greater Caucasus Range and has a very ancient history. Ingushetia is called the country of mountains and towers, which is displayed on the emblem of the republic. The very name of the Ingush, "galgai", translates as "tower dwellers", "tower builders". For thousands of years, this region has been inhabited by people, and some of the buildings date back to 2-3 millennia BC. Among the majestic white caps of the Caucasus, the Ingush built their guard fortifications, erected fortresses and houses. An important point of the Silk Road passed through this land, and a lively trade was carried on here, which contributed to the development of tower architecture in this inaccessible area. An amazing edge! Here Islam borders on ancient pagan sanctuaries and the oldest Christian temple in Russia. All this is surrounded by majestic mountains, snowy views of the Caucasus five-thousanders and Kazbek himself open up! The entire region is strewn with ancient monuments, among which tower complexes proudly rise upward.

An interesting and uncomplicated route for the May holidays in sunny Abkhazia, which is perfect for beginners, children and those who do not like a lot of km and kg)))

The route is distinguished by the absence of heavy crossings and high passes, an abundance of radial exits and a variety of attractions. We will have only 2 days of trekking with a backpack, the rest of the transitions are radial exits with light luggage. The heights at which the hike will take place are about 600 m, so the mountains will already have time to warm up, dissolve the spring greens, and the snow will only decorate the peaks towering over the valley.

The Kodori Gorge is a river valley in Abkhazia, not far from Sukhum, one of the most picturesque and interesting places in the Caucasus! Our hike along the Kodori gorge very full of sights and pleasant surprises! It passes through picturesque valleys, along turbulent rivers and gorges, high waterfalls and deep caves, the second largest mountain lake in Abkhazia Amtschkel; we will see a mysterious dolmen and once impregnable fortresses that stood on the way of the Great Silk Road, descend to the bottom of the canyons, admire the peacefully grazing herds in the meadows and golden trout in crystal clear waters, and those who wish can fish on the lake or in a mountain stream, because the bite is excellent here !

At the end of the mountain part of the hike, we will have a day when those who wish can, for an additional fee, go on a real speleo trip in wetsuits to the Shakuran cave, or raft on the Kodor River - whoever likes something, and if you don't want any of this, we just take a walk in the vicinity.

Finally, we will take off all the fatigue after the hike in the hot thermal springs of Kyndyg and in the Black Sea. And, of course, we will not leave the cultural part - we will take a walk in the pearl of Abkhazia, the New Athos complex.

Welcome to the picturesque mountainous Abkhazia!

Caucasus - hiking

The Caucasus is located between the Black, Caspian and Azov Seas, on the border of Europe and Asia. It consists of the Main Caucasian ridge and the adjacent regions of the North and South Caucasus. The North Caucasus is a plain (Kuban) and foothill (Ciscaucasia) lands, they are entirely part of Russia. The South Caucasus is divided between South Ossetia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The Central Caucasus is the most mountainous and the most inaccessible region, the heights exceed 5000 m. The graceful lines of the thinly carved peaks of the Caucasus with a bright firn cover at their foothills delight the eye with a wonderful combination of colors. Mount Elbrus (Mingi-Tau) is considered to be the pearl of the Caucasus, its height is 5642 m. Elbrus is also the highest peak in Europe. It is a two-headed cone of an extinct volcano. Elbrus is a very popular place among serious climbers.

Elbrus region - this is how the name of the part of the Greater Caucasus, located from the western approach to Elbrus to the Chegem river basin in the east, has developed in the tourist environment. It is a chain of the highest peaks located in the territory of Kabardino-Balkaria. The Elbrus region is decorated with magnificent gorges at an altitude of 2 thousand or more meters above sea level. Glaciers lie above 3500 m. There are many beautiful waterfalls from 3500 to 2100 m. Many rivers of Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia originate from glaciers. The hike in these places is difficult and requires good physical and mental preparation from the participants.

The Western Caucasus is a very picturesque area, despite the fact that the mountains are lower here. Calm valleys, a riot of forests and greenery. Glaciers here practically descend with their tongues into the upper reaches of the valleys. The vertices have sharp jagged shapes and a peak. The average heights of the passes are 3000 m. This system combines mountain and forest landscapes with rocky peaks and towers covered with glaciers and snowfields. For example, the hike "Through Lago-Naki to the sea" is moderately difficult, it is best suited for the first acquaintance with the Caucasian mountains.

Abkhazia - located in the Western Caucasus, is famous for its stunning peaks, vast meadows, wild forests, the unique high-mountainous lake Ritsa, Caucasian hospitality. Here is the huge Arabica plateau, which gave the name to one of our hikes in the Caucasus, on which there are many caves. Routes in these parts will be interesting for lovers of new and untrodden paths. They are quite complicated because suggest significant differences in height, you need to wade through thickets and windbreaks.

The Caucasus is an amazing place. The legendary peaks Elbrus and Kazbek are crowned with the local ridges, united into mountain systems - here the Greater and Lesser Caucasus begin. Looking at the snow-capped rocky slopes propping up the sky, you feel the full power of the wild. The Caucasus is a rather harsh mountain, in winter it gets five meters of snow on the passes here, and in summer it is hot up to thirty degrees. Numerous hiking routes in the Caucasus are very diverse and at the same time not easy. Mountains and passes attract both experienced tourists and those who are just beginning to learn the wonderful world of tourism. Alpine meadows here alternate with turbulent mountain rivers carrying their foamy streams into the real foothill jungle. Stunning colors and amazing silence are the hallmark of these places, and here, in the Caucasus, you can truly enjoy both.

There are several peculiarities of hiking in the Caucasus. First of all, it is worth mentioning the weather. It rarely rains here in summer, but it often rains, and sometimes it happens every day. A windbreaker is a must, and so is a raincoat. If the sun is shining, then it is shining so that be healthy, especially at altitude, respectively, do not forget to take sunscreen with you so as not to burn too much. Good weather that lasts a week in a row in the Caucasus is rare, but it also happens. In addition, there are no problems with water in the Caucasus, there are many springs and rivers, which we will sometimes cross.

Secondly, I will mention a slight feeling of hunger. We usually carry all the products with us, since on most routes there is nowhere to buy them, and since you cannot take on much on yourself, otherwise you simply will not go, you have to take into account the amount of products per day compared to the same Crimea. A vicious circle - the loads in the Caucasus are great, you will want to eat a lot, but you won't take much with you, in general it will be possible to lose another kilogram.

Hiking trips in the Caucasus are usually 9 and 12 days long. And here you need to be strong in spirit and realize that you have to go to the end. Because there is simply nowhere to get off here on the route. There are only mountains around. To get off the route, the whole group will have to shoot and stomp to the nearest settlement, and this is often a couple of days' journey, in order to leave those who want to end the journey there prematurely. But, I will add that we have a couple of not very difficult routes, especially for beginners - along Tkhachi in Adygea and along the Kodori Gorge in Abkhazia.

Let me remind you that we have routes that go along the border areas and reserves. This imposes its own peculiarities on hiking, nature reserves as nature reserves, but the border guards need to issue permits for some routes in advance, Russians get a pass a month in advance, citizens of other states two months before the trip, we issue the passes, you only need your data. Well, that's all, good hikes!
