The resort town of the Azov coast of Russia, the fifth city in terms of population. Since its foundation it has been a seaport. The city is located at the base of the Yeisk spit, between the Taganrog Bay and the Yeisk estuary of the Azov Sea. The name of the city comes from the river Yeya, which flows into the Yeisk estuary. The inhabitants of the city of Yeisk are called eichanami.

Back in 1777-1778, on the site of modern Yeisk, the so-called Khan's town was built, which was supposed to become the reserve capital of the principality and the residence of the protégé of Russia, the Crimean Khan Shagin-Girey. In 1783, at the walls of the Khan town in the presence of the troops of Alexander Suvorov, a manifesto was read about the annexation of the Crimea, Taman and the Right-Bank Kuban to Russia.

In 1847, the ataman of the Black Sea Cossack army, Grigory Rashpil, initiated the creation of a port city at the base of the Yeisk spit. The idea was actively supported by the governor of the Caucasus, His Serene Highness Prince Mikhail Semyonovich Vorontsov, the result of whose activity was the Decree of Sovereign Emperor Nicholas I dated March 6, 1848 No. 22058 "On the opening of the Black Sea port city of Yeisk on the Sea of Azov within the army":

In order to teach the inhabitants of the Stavropol province and the troops of the Black Sea new means for the successful and profitable sale abroad of products from agriculture and thereby contribute to the development of all industries in this region, on the Sea of Azov, near the so-called Yeisk spit, open a port and establish a city, which is called the port city of Yeisk.

The city was founded on August 19, 1848 (August 31, 1848 in a new style). The first temporary head of the city was Pyotr Litevsky. In 1849 he was replaced by the permanent mayor - Prince Alexander Golitsyn.

On September 1, 1849, the site for the construction of the Pokrovsky prayer house was consecrated, in which the priest st. Staroshcherbinovskaya archpriest Thomas Prague and Yeisk priest Pavel Yaroshevich. Already on October 1, 1950, the construction was completed, and the meetinghouse was consecrated.

During the Crimean War of 1853-1856, Yeisk was badly damaged by shelling from the British squadron operating in the Sea of Azov. The most tragic events for Yeisk unfolded on October 22-24, 1855, when the city was attacked by amphibious assault under incessant shelling. On the whole, every tenth house burned down in Yeisk during the war.

In the second half of the 19th century, several educational institutions were opened in Yeisk (a three-year district school, a Kuban military gymnasium, a six-grade real school, a Ksenin women's gymnasium, etc.), and most of the streets were paving. Since 1875, regular lighting has appeared in Yeisk.

Administratively Yeisk was part of the Yeisk department of the Kuban region.

By the beginning of the 20th century, Yeisk was turning into a major center of international trade and becoming the cultural center of the South of Russia. In 1904, on the initiative of the city authorities, the port was reconstructed, and in 1911, the Yeisk Railroad Joint Stock Company, created on the initiative of the mayor V. Nenashev, opened a railway connection. The resort business has been developing in the city since 1912. On the basis of the reserves of hydrogen sulfide water and mud of the Khan Lake discovered in the city, a balneological resort has emerged, which exists to the present day.

During the First World War, the importance of Yeisk as an international port declines: it is used mainly for rear army transportation.

After the October Revolution of 1917, power in Yeisk passed from hand to hand a total of six times. On the Yeisk peninsula there was a confrontation between "whites" and "reds". The symbol of the Reds was the city of Yeisk. The Cossack villages of the Yeisk peninsula performed under the white banner. Soviet power in Yeisk was first established on February 2, 1918. On the night of April 30 to May 1, a bloody assault on Yeisk by White Guard Cossacks took place, which, however, was repulsed. The next attempt to capture Yeisk was carried out in early July, when during one night a White Guard landing force, numbering about 600 people, captured the seaport and several ships standing in the roads. However, the white movement was able to conquer Yeisk only a few days later - on July 12 (July 25 in the new style). The Bolsheviks took back the city in March 1920.

On May 5, 1920, the Yeisk Museum of History and Local Lore was created, which today is one of the oldest museums in the Kuban. In 1921, the Yeysk sanatorium began to function. In the 1920s and 1930s, the city developed as an industrial center. During this time, the plants "Molot" (plant "Polygraphmash"), "Selkhozzapchast" (Machine-tool plant) and others were built. Since the beginning of the 1930s, the Naval Pilot School has been relocated to Yeisk, which educated more than three hundred heroes of the Soviet Union and Russia. In 1939, Yeisk became a city of regional subordination within the Krasnodar Territory and the administrative center of the Yeisk region.

During the Great Patriotic War, Yeisk was constantly bombarded by German aviation. And on April 22, 1942, bombers did not drop bombs, but leaflets with the following content: “Don't make pies, don't knead dough. You won't find a place on the 23rd. " The next day, on the day of Orthodox Easter, the bombing of the city was especially strong. The occupation of the city lasted from August 1942 to early February 1943. At this time, the German Nazis carried out mass arrests and executions of her residents. The destruction of 214 children of the orphanage in the gas chamber was especially cruel. During the occupation, as well as in the post-war years, the famous Russian wrestler I.M.Poddubny lived in the city, who died here in 1949.

After the end of the war, the railway station, seaport, social infrastructure, main factories and plants were quickly restored. Every year more and more tourists came to Yeisk, especially in the summer. The warm waters of the Taganrog Bay and the Yeisk estuary, as well as therapeutic mud, which are not inferior in their properties to the mud of the Dead Sea, attracted people from all over the country. In city parks of culture and recreation, various attractions were installed, produced at the Yeisk plant "Attraction". Concert venues, several cinemas, many cafes and restaurants functioned in the city, several hotels operated, and the Yeisk sanatorium continued to develop. In Soviet times, the city was actively built: new residential neighborhoods appeared, such as 2nd, 38th, "Solnechny", Military town.

After "perestroika", due to the serious crisis in the country, holidays in Yeisk lost their popularity and ceased to be widespread. The first impetus to the revival of Yeisk as a resort was given by the mayor L. V. Baklitsky, who came to power in 1996. And although his activity as the head of the city is assessed very ambiguously, in general, Yeisk celebrated its 150th anniversary with dignity and again declared itself as a promising vacation spot in Russia.

On September 17, 2003 the President of Russia Vladimir Putin visited the city of Yeysk. Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov, Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and FSB Director Nikolai Patrushev were also present at the meeting, which was held on the territory of the Yeisk Higher Military Aviation School.

On May 27, 2007, a referendum was held, during which the residents of Yeisk and Yeisk district voted for the unification of the two municipalities into one. In mid-August 2008, the city of Yeisk celebrated its 160th anniversary.

On December 19, 2008, the Council of the Yeisk urban settlement considered the issue of returning the name “city of Yeysk” to the municipality. However, this initiative of the people of Yeisk was supported only by the deputies Lovyannikova E.O., Mironenko E.V. and Ivashechkin O.A.

Yeisk is located at the northeastern end of the Yeisk peninsula, at the base of the Yeisk spit. The coast of the city is washed from the east by the waters of the Yeisk estuary (the largest in the North Caucasus, with an area of about 244 km²) and from the west by the waters of the Taganrog Bay of the Azov Sea. Three kilometers from the end of the Yeisk spit is the eponymous island of the Yeisk spit, which looks like an atoll, that is, an island in the form of a ring with a protected lagoon inside.

Yeisk is the northernmost city of the Krasnodar Territory; that's why the slogan got widespread "Kuban begins from Yeisk"... In relation to the regional center, the city of Krasnodar, Yeisk is located 247 km to the northwest, and in relation to the capital of the Southern Federal District, the city of Rostov-on-Don, it is 172 km to the southwest.

An interesting fact: the distance from Yeisk to Moscow is exactly 1000 km, and to Tokyo - 8000 km (the calculation error does not exceed 1%).

Yeisk is located in the same latitudes as the cities of Olympia, Zurich, Budapest, Tiraspol, Odessa, Kherson, Harbin, Dalnerechensk and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

Climate

The Yeisk climate is temperate continental, with mild winters and hot summers. Average monthly air temperatures are similar to those found in New York City. However, unlike the northeastern coast of the United States, the climate in Yeisk is characterized by less rainfall, as well as the absence of frequent temperature changes.

Spring, as a rule, is finally established in the Yeysk region in mid-April, when the trees are covered with young foliage, and tulips, daffodils, lilacs and fruit trees bloom in city parks and gardens. Although the weather at this time can be quite changeable, in general it is favorable for outdoor walks. Already in May, the sea water warms up to an average of + 17.5 ° C, which allows opening the swimming season. Winter comes to Yeisk quite late. The first snow does not appear until mid-December, so the New Year is most often snowless. The average January temperature is −4 ° C. Snow cover is not really stable and rarely lasts more than two weeks in a row. However, frosts below -10 ° C in Yeisk are not uncommon. In some years, winter temperatures briefly dropped below -25 ° C.

Summer in Yeisk is very warm and sunny, the average daily temperature in July is +24 ° C, relative humidity is about 60%. Summer heat is softened by sea breezes. There are usually few rainy days, and the precipitation itself usually occurs in the form of short showers and thunderstorms. The average sea water temperature in June is +22.2 ° C, in July +24.9 ° C, in August +23.7 ° C.

The beginning of autumn in Yeisk is the so-called “velvet” season. The water temperature in September is +18.6 ° C, which allows you to extend your vacation on the coast until the end of the month. Autumn in Yeisk is characterized by sunny, relatively warm, but windy weather. By October, city parks take on green, gold and crimson tones at the same time. On some trees, green foliage lasts until the end of November, before the first night frosts.

Urban landscape

Architecture

Yeisk is included in the list of historical places in Russia. The first general plan of the city was approved by the founder of Yeisk, Prince M.S.Vorontsov in 1849. The project provided for a perpendicular perspective of 22 city streets, several squares, as well as a central avenue. In 1854-1856, the Gostiny Dvor was erected, which is today a monument of history and architecture. In 1890-1897, the square inside the Gostiny Dvor and the surrounding streets were paved.

According to the decree of Emperor Nicholas I, all buildings in Yeisk were to be built exclusively according to the approved city plan.

In the architectural appearance of the city center, you can find all the directions of Russian architecture of the second half of the XIX - early XX centuries. Merchant houses of that time are distinguished by magnificent architecture: each of them is unique, beautiful and peculiar in its own way. At the same time, all the buildings are united by a variety of decoration details: folding kokoshniks, porches, turrets, tents, teremki, cornices of all kinds, forged openwork winglets. This trend in the architecture of the 19th century was called the pseudo-Russian style and was explained by the general enthusiasm of both metropolitan and provincial circles for "fashion for everything Russian", gravitation towards well-known building forms tested in practice.

Modern Yeisk is a combination of architecture of three eras: tsarist, Soviet and late 1990s. A new architectural style is just beginning to be developed and implemented, first of all, during the development of new microdistricts 39 and 40, Taganrog embankment, as well as a cottage village in Krasnoflotsky. This activity is directly related to the names of the new leaders of Yeisk - Sergei Tulinov and Alexander Laschenkov. Since the late 1990s, intensive, dense and rather haphazard construction has created certain problems even for local taxi drivers - houses are numbered in the order of development.

City districts

The city of Yeisk is conditionally divided into several districts. Of the greatest interest for tourists and guests of the city is usually the Yeisk Spit, on which most of the recreation centers, the main city beaches, as well as the yacht club and one of the city's amusement parks are concentrated. The city spit is adjacent to the port area, which includes the territory of the Yeisk seaport, a railway station, as well as several factories. The new general plan of Yeisk provides for the transfer of the seaport outside the city.

Further to the south-west begins Kupechesky Yeisk - the historical part of the city, the main building of which was carried out in the 19th century. Conventionally, it is limited by the modern streets of Sergei Roman and Bohdan Khmelnitsky and is an ensemble of many strictly perpendicular streets that have preserved the appearance of a provincial southern port city to this day. Separately, the so-called City Center is distinguished - the territory adjacent to the Gostiny Dvor and the central city market.

From the west, the city is bordered by the territory of the Eisk airport. It is adjoined by one of the most populous Yeisk microdistricts - the Military Town, which includes a residential area and the territory of the Yeisk Higher Military Aviation Institute. Here is one of the main attractions of the city - the Park named after Ivan Maksimovich Poddubny.

To the south of the historical part of the city, there are the city industrial zone and the New residential area, which includes the 2nd and 38th microdistricts, the Solnechny microdistrict and the so-called Field of Tears - a cottage village named after the Mexican television series, well-known at the time, The rich also cry ”… These are the youngest districts of Yeisk. Further to the southeast is the settlement of Shirochanka, also geographically included in the city. Finally, in the immediate vicinity of Yeisk, there are the villages of Blizhneisky, Krasnoflotsky and Aleksandrovka.

Parks and squares

Due to the large number of trees and shrubs, Yeisk can be considered one of the greenest cities in the Kuban. The largest green area of the city is the Ivan Poddubny Park. Here is one of the most complete collections of attractions in Russia. A large number of summer cafes, several fountains, numerous alleys have made Poddubny Park a popular recreation place for residents and guests of the city.

The second largest city park, named after Gorky, is located 15 minutes' walk from Poddubny Park along Karl Marx Street. It is notable for its monuments and sculptures, there is a playground and cafes, as well as an Orthodox cathedral.

Nikolsky Park (former Kalinin Park) is located near the city palace of culture. This is the only round-shaped park in Yeisk.

The Primorsky Park is located at the Taganrog embankment. The most comfortable part of it is located near the Cossack kuren, at one of the slopes to the sea. Finally, it is worth highlighting the Pushkin Square, located in the city center, opposite the Yeysk-Arkada shopping center. There are also small squares near the railway station and the second microdistrict.

Resort

In 2006 Yeisk was given the status of a resort city. At the beginning of 2007, the residents of Yeisk came up with an initiative to develop the Yeisk Peninsula as a resort of federal importance. In 2008, the Russian Government is to approve a federal targeted program for the integrated development of the Russian coast of the Sea of Azov, within the framework of which substantial funds will be allocated to solve the infrastructure problems of Yeisk and Yeisk region.

In Yeisk there are several boarding houses, many recreation centers, a well-developed network of hotels and hotels. In 2007, more than 285 thousand people rested in Yeisk and Yeisk region. In the town planning plans for 2008-2010, a special place is given to a large-scale project for the development of the Taganrog embankment, within the framework of which an oceanarium, a new concert hall, a sanatorium complex with a mud baths and many hotel and shopping complexes will appear in Yeisk.

Beach vacation

Beach vacation is the most popular in Yeisk. Hot sunny summers, sandy seashell beaches and shallow sea attract thousands of vacationers from all over Russia every year.

The main beaches (including the central city beach and the children's beach located opposite it) are concentrated on the Yeisk spit. The Youth Beach located at the end of the Yeisk Spit is very interesting. Its distinctive feature is the underwater current observed from the side of the Yeisk estuary, due to which the sea depth is maximal.

The most popular is the so-called Kamenka Beach, located south of the port. Mainly sandy on the north side, to the south the beach gradually turns into pebble. The sea here is very shallow, during low tides, numerous shoals come to the surface, forming large sandy "islands". The alternating shoals and deeper sea ends only a few hundred meters from the coast.

There are also separate small beaches on the coast of the Yeisk estuary in the area of the second microdistrict.

Despite the large length of the coastline, Yeisk is experiencing a shortage of quality beach areas. This problem is especially acute during the peak of the holiday season, when the concentration of people on the main city beaches becomes very high.

Children and family holidays

The family recreation industry is actively developing in Yeisk. There are numerous water attractions on the city beaches. In 2007, a dolphinarium was built on the Taganrog embankment. By the middle of the 2008 holiday season, a water park also appeared next to it. In the area of the central city beach and in the park of I. M. Poddubny, dozens of attractions operate, including two review wheels, etc. "roller coaster". There are several children's cafes in the city ("Penguin", "Ficus", etc.), there are two cinemas ("Premier", "Rodina").

Several children's summer camps are successfully operating, including: children's health camp "Yeisk", "Druzhba", "Chaika", "Siverko", "Salut". All 100% of vouchers for the 2008 holiday season were sold out before spring.

Healing rest

40 km from Yeysk is Lake Khan, famous for its curative mud and a source of iodine-bromine and hydrogen sulfide mineral waters. In the sanatorium "Yeisk" with their help, treatment is carried out, which helps to improve metabolic processes in the body, eliminate radionuclides, salts of heavy metals, as well as providing anti-inflammatory, analgesic effects and improving motor functions.

Windsurfing

Yeisk is often called “the Russian mecca of surfers”. The first windsurfing competition was held at the Yeisk Yacht Club back in 1999. Since then, the number of participants and fans of this spectacular sport has grown steadily. In 2003, the first kitesurfing competition was held. In May 2006, more than 150 athletes took part in the competition, the number of guests from all over Russia exceeded 1.5 thousand people. In 2009, the Yeisk Cup competitions were held from May 1 to May 9.

Leisure

In Yeisk and Yeisk district, various active types of recreation are widespread: tourism, equestrian sports, parachute jumping, hunting and fishing. Yeisk is one of the emerging and very promising yachting centers in Russia. Every year at the beginning of May, the sailing festival of cruising yachts "Sailing Spring in the City of Yeisk" is held in the waters of the Taganrog Bay.

Tourists

The main advantages of Yeisk include its relatively compact size, affordable housing prices, as well as the absence of excessive fuss, which has become a constant companion of popular holiday destinations. The Azov Sea itself plays an important role in such a positive image. Extremely shallow and warm, it is ideal for those traveling with toddlers who are just learning to swim.

Yeisk history

Yeisk appeared on the map of Russia in 1848. The future port was being built on Azov on the territory of the Khansky town, the "spare" residence of the Crimean Khan Shahin-Girey. By the second half of the 19th century, Yeisk had evolved from a provincial town into one of the largest cultural and trade centers in southern Russia. Thanks to the presence of the port, the city established trade relations with foreign countries, acquired a railway and slowly began to develop a new profitable industry - the resort business. The first vacationers began to appear on the Yeisk Spit already in 1912, but with the outbreak of World War II, the resort fell into decay, and did not manage to develop properly.

It is worth noting that Yeisk's wars were never spared. So, during the Crimean campaign, most of the city buildings were destroyed by artillery salvos from the British squadron. For a long time, the Whites and Reds could not share the Civil Port, and with the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, German bombers began to pay increased attention to the city.

The resort traditions in Yeisk began to be revived in the 50s of the last century. Several new residential neighborhoods were built in the city, the hotel base was expanded, not forgetting about entertainment establishments and pioneer camps. As a result, a tourist stream flowed again to the shores of the Taganrog Bay, which almost completely dried up with the beginning of perestroika. However, in the mid-90s, the northernmost city of the Kuban regained the title of a family resort, once again opening its beaches to all fans of a measured, budget holiday.

Best time to travel

The temperate continental climate zone, which includes Yeisk, is characterized by short snowless winters and long hot summers. The swimming season at the resort starts in May, when the water warms up to +17.5 ° С. Summer months in this part of the Azov Sea delight vacationers with fine sunny days and warmth, combined with light refreshing breezes from the bay. The average water temperature in July is + 24.9 ° С. Summer precipitation is rare, and if it does occur, it is in the form of short-term showers.

The best time for swimming in the Sea of Azov is the period from July to August. You can also get your tan in September, which is considered the "velvet season" in Yeisk. By this time, the water has not yet had time to cool down (average temperature + 18.6 ° C), and the intense summer heat is replaced by the soft warmth of the first autumn month. In the period from May to June there are noticeably fewer holidaymakers on the shores of the Taganrog Bay, which attracts all seekers of relative solitude here. In addition, renting a room or hotel room at this time can be significantly cheaper than during the high season.

City districts

Yeisk is divided into 13 districts, of which the tourist fraternity singles out only a few worthy of attention. The absolute champion in attendance is the Yeisk Spit: a narrow promontory separating the Yeisk estuary and the Taganrog Bay, the main beach area of the city, as well as a place of maximum concentration of all kinds of recreation centers, restaurants and cafes.

The path to the spit passes through the port area, whose name speaks for itself. By the way, not only the port, but also the railway station, as well as several industrial enterprises fit into the territory of this region. The latter, of course, are completely out of the question here, but the local authorities assure that in the foreseeable future all unreliable, from an environmental point of view, objects will leave the area.

The merchant city and, in combination, the historical center of Yeisk has preserved some examples of urban development of the 19th century. It is pleasant to just walk here, admiring the old mansions and occasionally looking into the pretty shops that occupy historic buildings.

It is a stone's throw from Kupecheskiy Yeisk to Taganrog embankment, popularly called Kamenka. This main city promenade is decorated in the traditional style of the Black Sea embankments: souvenir tents, pavilions of unpretentious attractions, as well as endless rows of barbecue and snack bars. The most densely populated area of the resort - Military town - does not amaze the imagination with some fantastic landscapes, but it is on its territory that one of the main Yeisk attractions, the park named after I. Poddubny.

Entertainment and attractions of Yeysk

It would be unfair to say that apart from the beaches, the tourist has absolutely nowhere to go in the resort. Yes, Yeysk is relatively small and slightly provincial and, nevertheless, no one has yet deprived it of the status of one of the richest cities in the cultural and historical sights of the Kuban.

One should begin acquaintance with Yeisk from its center, where former merchant mansions of the 19th century are grouped. The center of attraction for all lovers of historical buildings is Gostiny Dvor, the exterior of which was copied by the architect from a similar building in St. Petersburg. Do not miss the opportunity to look inside the old building and buy something tasty: the building is still home to shopping arcades. For aimless walks in the fresh air and get-togethers in a cafe, Sverdlov Street or Yeisk Arbat, as the townspeople themselves pathetically call it, are suitable. For your information, in this part of the city you can still observe sections of the cobblestone pavement, preserved from the tsarist times.

To look at the 19th century Yeisk in more detail, buy a ticket to the Museum of History and Local Lore. Samsonov, which, according to his own guides, contains about 50,000 valuable exhibits. Fans of old-school painting are awaited at the Yeisk Art Museum, whose exposition can offer visitors very unusual canvases of the 17th-20th centuries. Be sure to stop by the "Lady in the Cap" by an unknown artist and make sure that this is really a painting, and not a photograph, as it might seem at first glance.

Portrait "Lady in a Cap"

The funds of the Ivan Poddubny Memorial Museum, located in the park of the same name, are much more modest, but some personal belongings of the strongman and even simple poems written by his hand have been preserved in it. Here, the tourist will be allowed to exercise with sports equipment, with which the wrestler trained more than 100 years ago, and will also demonstrate the Spartan atmosphere of the dwelling where the ex-champion spent the last years of his life.

You can turn back the clock and plunge into the atmosphere of the Cossack life in the open-air museum "Kuban Khutor" (Morskoy village). It is best to visit the complex with children, as this ethnographic village is full of pets that are allowed to pet and feed. Well, adult visitors will like a real Russian bathhouse, which is at the complete disposal of guests, Cossack smoking rooms with amenities and gazebos for picnics.

Resorts, who are accustomed to bringing photos from their vacation, embracing monuments and sculptures, in Yeisk also have a place to roam. The most photographed place in the city is the intersection of Pobeda and Lenin Streets, where the bronze Sergei Bondarchuk is comfortably seated in an armchair. Not far from the legendary director, on the same bronze porch, sits a no less famous resident of the city - Nonna Mordyukova. By the way, leaving Yeisk without taking a selfie with two of the greatest figures of Russian cinema is a gross mistake, because there are no more monuments to Mordyukova and Bondarchuk in any city!

Near the Central Beach the armored boat "Yeisk patriot", built during the Great Patriotic War with the money of the citizens of Sheikh, is on duty, and at the end of the war installed on a monolithic base as a monument glorifying the people's feat in the victory over fascism. Opposite the square to them. Pushkin proudly saddled a barrel of beer, armed with a rifle and brother, a dashing Cossack. In the same park there is another monument, but not of a different plan: a memorial monument with a slab and a child's figurine was erected in memory of 214 Yeisk orphanages sent to gas chambers by SS executioners. In the area of the city station, a bust of the founder of the city, Prince Vorontsov, is strictly watching the tourists. Walking along the Taganrog embankment, you can capture yourself against the backdrop of one of the most delicious monuments in Yeisk - a monument to dumplings, the creation of which was financed by a local entrepreneur.

Tourists, weary of the sun and the sea, go in search of shade and coolness to Yeisk parks and squares, the most visited of which is still the park named after I. Poddubny. Intricate labyrinths of alleys, tiled paths, carousels from Soviet childhood (quite serviceable) and modern attractions, souvenir stalls, cozy restaurants, and of course, a monument over the grave of the unforgettable Ivan Poddubny - these are the main identifying signs of a particular place.

In the center of Yeysk, next to the city house of culture, the park is located. Gorky, in which, in addition to charming miniature bridges and a mini-zoo, you can find the Church of St. Michael the Archangel. Here you can also ride a real pony, rent roller skates or get some nice memorable souvenir. On the territory of the park, from the side of the market square, there is a small flea market, so adored by numismatists and collectors of all kinds of Soviet paraphernalia.

The Nikolsky Park is a little simpler and, accordingly, quieter. Of the entertainment available to visitors, there are only unpretentious attractions, ice cream and soda stands, and well-groomed paths. The main treasure of this green island is an old oak, planted, according to legend, by Count Vorontsov himself.

For children, the resort has its own fun, mainly related to the marine theme. For example, the Yeisk Dolphinarium offers interesting show programs, where dolphins and seals act as artists. In the Shark Reef Oceanarium on the Taganrog Embankment, you can watch the habits of stingrays and reef sharks, but if you are lucky with the time of your visit, you can also watch the process of their feeding. An excellent place to relax with the whole family is the outdoor water park "Nemo", located not far from the Kamenka beach.

If you have free time, you should pay attention to the vicinity of Yeisk. For example, you can ride to the Seven Winds Island (aka Bird and Green Island), which was once part of the spit. During the season, a boat runs to this piece of ring-shaped land, so getting on it is not difficult at all. Among the main attractions of Bird Island is a lake with healing mud, which tourists like to use as masks, an abundance of birds and windy weather, which creates ideal conditions for windsurfing. Another outstanding and useful in all respects place is Lake Khan, located on the territory of the Yasensky reserve, 55 km from the resort. Swimming in its salty waters is especially indicated for people with diseases of the cardiovascular system and the musculoskeletal system, and the healing mud from the bottom of the reservoir can be applied to anyone who wishes - no contraindications and sheer benefit. True, you will have to come to terms with the specific "fragrance" of a natural medicine, too clearly giving off hydrogen sulfide.

Beach rest in Yeisk

A traveler who has arrived in Yeisk has two options for swimming: the Taganrog Bay and the Yeisk Estuary. At the same time, one does not need to go far: both are the closest neighbors, separated by the "needle" of the very spit that holds the city's beach infrastructure. The main feature of local beaches is a flat seabed and a vast (sometimes even too much) shallow water area. Thanks to this feature, the sun's rays perfectly warm the water column, which is especially noticeable on the estuary. By the way, while swimming in the Sea of Azov, one involuntarily recalls an episode from the movie "The Diamond Arm", in which the character of A. Mironov walks after the fisherman boy "on water, like on dry land." Sometimes you can move away from the shore for several hundred meters, but you still can't find a place where you could fully swim without clinging to the bottom with your feet.

After a vacation on the Black Sea coast, the shade of the water in the Sea of Azov can cause slight disappointment: no blue and very conditional transparency. The whole aesthetics is spoiled by healing sludge, which rises upward at the slightest movement and stains the water in a characteristic turbid greenish color. To put up with such a feature or to urgently change the resort is everyone's personal business. However, do not forget that this bottom suspension is very useful for the body, and many tourists go to Azov solely for the sake of its health-improving effect. For your information, the water in the bay is cleaner than in the estuary, but in windy weather, muddy masses rise from the bottom here too.

Local beaches are mostly sandy-shell, so slippers for swimming in Yeisk are rightfully considered the most justified purchase. Most holidaymakers prefer to bask on the Central Beach, which has access to the bay and estuary. The advantages of this place include its well-developed infrastructure. The beach is equipped with changing cabins and water attractions, and nearby are rows of souvenir tents, snack bars and nightclubs. Like all replicated places, the Central Beach of Yeisk has only one drawback - in the high season it is too noisy and crowded here.

The second most important place for swimming in the Taganrog Bay is the Kamenka beach, which can be accessed by going down the ladder, equipped on the city embankment. The beach area is divided into pebble and shell. As for entertainment, everything is more than worthy here: volleyball, banana rides, trampolines and a bunch of extreme and not so much attractions. Sunbathing in comfort is also not a problem: you can take an umbrella or a sun lounger at the nearby beach equipment rental points. But catering points in Kamenka are in great shortage, so for a snack you will either have to go up the embankment or agree to the assortment offered by loud-voiced Yeisk hawkers.

Young holiday-makers can be found at the end of Kamenka, not far from the port. For the little ones there is a private beach with the self-explanatory name "Melyaki". A gentle bottom, a convenient approach to the water, an abundance of small puddles after low tide and a sandy shore - even at the most cursory examination of the Melyakov, one gets the impression that nature created them specifically for "baking" Easter cakes and building sand castles.

Those who are annoyed by the noise and crowds of large beaches can be advised to go to less inhabited places, in particular, to the coastal area near the Military town (opposite Primorsky lane and Nikolaevskaya street) or the wild Obryv beach (at the exit from Yeisk, landmark - the road leading to the village of Morskoy). Here you can have a picnic or go fishing in relative silence.

Swimming in the Yeisk estuary is considered a privilege of little tourists, therefore, the main contingent of tourists on the local beaches is mothers with babies. The greatest liveliness reigns at the Children's Beach: the sea here is shallow, and the water is warm and less salty than in the bay area. After swimming, you can grab a snack at nearby cafes and fast food stalls. The necessary attributes of a comfortable stay are also available, where to get it - sun beds, umbrellas, sports equipment are rented everywhere.

Of the wilder spots on the estuary, you can name the beach in the Vodnik microdistrict (there is no infrastructure as such), as well as a section of the coast that runs parallel to Limanskaya Street. Although there are plenty of holiday-makers here, too, during the season, you will have to give up hopes of solitude.

For extremists and windsurfers, it's not a sin to look at the Youth Beach, which stretches at the end of the Yeisk Spit. The key characteristics of this piece of coastline are the steep entrance to the sea and strong underwater currents, which surfers like so much and do not please beginner swimmers at all. But it is better not to waste time on the beach in the area of Nizhnes Sadovaya Street. Firstly, because this is not a beach at all in the usual sense, but an unkempt piece of coastline with an extremely inconvenient entry into the sea. And secondly, because a busy highway runs parallel to it.

City's legends

In 2010, examining satellite images of Yeisk, the editor of a city newspaper noticed an unusual image in the area of the flight school stadium. The figure that appeared in the photograph resembled in its outlines the appearance of the Virgin, which the journalist was not slow to tell the media about. The sensational statement was perceived ambiguously, especially since it was not easy to verify the reliability of this fact. So over time, the hype around the "discovery" subsided, and the story itself passed into the category of urban legends. At the same time, the same satellite image that "opened the eyes" of the Yeisk journalist is still wandering across the Internet.

Treatment in Yeisk

The natural resources of Yeisk are already an excellent medicine in themselves: air filled with iodine and magnesium, sea water and, finally, healing silt mud. But, if a professional approach to the diagnosis and treatment of ailments is required, it is worth getting a ticket to local sanatoriums. The main health resort, located within the resort, is the Yeysk health resort, which is essentially a balneological and mud baths. The institution specializes in diseases of the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory systems, as well as gynecological and urological problems. In addition, the material and technical base of the sanatorium allows it to accept small guests for treatment. The main elixirs that are used in "Yeisk" are mud from Lake Khan and local mineral water used in baths. The family resort "Kazachiy Bereg" is located on the Dolgaya spit in the Yeisk region and looks more like a recreation center with a wide range of spa treatments than a classic sanatorium. However, you can also take a course of therapeutic massage, mud applications or take whirlpool baths here.

Restaurants and cafes

The most popular food outlets in the resort are small cafes and canteens specializing in Russian and European cuisine. Relatively budget taverns of Yeisk include "Cream-olives" and "Vareniki". They cook well in Izba, Baklazhan and Cossack Kuren, but the prices, according to reviews, are slightly overestimated.

If you need a place with a children's menu, try to look at the Park Cafe, but in search of Italian fast food and Asian delights it is better to go to Sushi Pizza. Shashlik, kebabs and pasties, which have become an integral gastronomic attribute of Krasnodar resorts, are also easy to get here.

Gastro-bars are also gaining popularity in Yeysk, some of which boast their own mini-breweries. In particular, the Prozharka Grill and Bar has made a reputation for juicy steaks and incendiary theme parties, while the Am-bar lures clientele with cold beer, Bavarian sausages and gigantic portions of pork knuckle.

Where to stay

The main types of housing that a holiday traveler can count on in Yeisk are family mini-hotels, guest houses, recreation centers and campings. There are few classic hotels in the city. Prices directly depend on the location of the guesthouse, as well as the range of amenities available to the guests of the establishment. In search of relatively cheap apartments, it is better to go to Shirochanka, New residential area and Voenny Gorodok, that is, to areas relatively remote from the Yeisk spit and the city center. With a certain amount of luck in them, you can find a modest room with a double bed, TV and air conditioning for only 700-1000 rubles. More upgraded options with access to the kitchen, Wi-Fi, free parking and a transfer will cost around 1500-2000 rubles.

In the guesthouses of the Kupechesky Gorodok and the Yeisk Spit, prices are less attractive, but in them you can count on such pleasant bonuses as walking distance to the historic city center and beaches, so if you do not want to waste time on the daily tiresome promenades to the bay, it is better to slightly overpay. The level of hotel service in Yeisk is predominantly two stars (Tornado, Rest). The only resort "three-ruble note", the Babylon hotel, can be called an institution with a claim. In addition to a private beach, the hotel can offer its guests an indoor swimming pool, sauna, spa, as well as meals in a hotel restaurant.

What to bring with you

For global shopping, Yeisk is definitely not an option. But here you can stock up on inexpensive hand-made souvenirs, which are so nice to present to friends upon returning from a trip. In most resort tents, you can find inexhaustible deposits of all kinds of handicrafts, beads and shell bracelets. But keep in mind that as you get closer to the city beaches and the promenade, the cost of such souvenirs increases exponentially. Among the tourists returning from the resort, you will surely find several people carrying containers with miraculous silt. If there is no desire to carry such an odorous load, you can limit yourself to a couple of bars of soap or cosmetic masks based on Yeisk mud. Among gastronomic souvenirs, the greatest demand in Yeisk is for Kuban honey and the products of the local brewery "Priazovskaya Bavaria".

The city of Yeysk was founded in 1848. The beginning of the history of the city was laid by the Decree of Sovereign Emperor Nicholas I dated March 6, 1848 No. 22058 "On the opening of the Black Sea port city of Yeisk on the Sea of Azov within the army", which read: "In order to teach the residents of the Stavropol province and the troops of the Black Sea new means for the successful and profitable sale abroad of the products of their agriculture and thereby contribute to the development of all industries in this region, on the Sea of Azov, near the so-called Yeisk spit, open a port and establish a city , which is called the port city of Yeisk ".

On August 31 - September 1, 1848, the city and port were officially opened. In 1849 the general plan of the city was approved. The Governor of the Caucasus, Prince M.S., took an active part in the founding and development of the city. Vorontsov.

Since 1869 Yeisk has been the center of the Yeisk district, since 1888 it has been the center of the Yeisk department. Since 1932, the city has become an independent administrative center, since 1939 - a city of regional subordination, since 2007 - the administrative center of the Yeisk district of the Krasnodar Territory.

Yeisk today

Today Yeisk is a dynamically developing resort and port city located 247 km north-west of Krasnodar and 172 km south-west of Rostov-on-Don.

The city is the administrative center of the Yeisk district, where, according to the 2010 census, 141,248 people live. Of these, 97,176 people live in Yeisk.

The main directions of the city's development in recent years are the resort sector and the port complex. At the same time, the Yeisk region is one of the largest agricultural regions of the region.

Resort and tourism

The favorable steppe climate, the flat, gently sloping bottom of the Azov Sea and the successful wind rose made Yeisk an ideal place for children, families and outdoor activities.

The swimming season in Yeisk lasts from May to September. In summer, the air warms up to + 25-30 degrees. However, the sea breezes are good at softening the summer heat. Almost five months you can relax by the sea, and hours of sunshine a year from 2300 to 2500.

In recent years, there has been an active growth in the development of tourism infrastructure in Yeisk. The most notable changes affected the central part of the city and the Taganrog embankment. A water park, a dolphinarium and an oceanarium have been opened in Yeisk. One of the most beautiful parks in the Kuban was transformed - the park named after Ivan Poddubny.

Yeysk is also a unique mud spa resort. The very nature of the Yeisk region is presented with exceptional possibilities of combining mineral waters and curative mud, which belong to high-quality mineral curative hydro-carbonate-sulphate, magnesium-calcium mud. In terms of their properties and quality, they are not inferior to the healing mud of the Dead Sea in Israel and the mud of Saxony.

The number of tourists coming to Yeisk is growing from year to year. In 2011, more than 400 thousand people rested in the region. The plans of the Yeisk district administration are to increase the number of tourists to 1 million within 2-3 years.

Climate and geography

The city of Yeysk is located on the Yeisk spit, washed by the waters of the Azov Sea, or, more precisely, the Taganrog Bay and the Yeisk estuary. This is the farthest point in the northwest of the Krasnodar Territory.

The climate in the Yeisk region is moderately continental. It is softened by the water masses of the Azov and Black Seas, due to which the climate in Yeisk is considered the most comfortable for humans, creates favorable conditions for strengthening people's health and greatly increases the effectiveness of resort recreation in Yeisk.

sights

Yeysk is one of the few cities in the Kuban that has managed to preserve its original architectural appearance. In terms of the number of monuments of history and culture, the Yeisk region is in third place in the region - there are 613 monuments and memorials. 85 - belong to historical monuments, 25 - to monumental art, more than 330 - to architectural monuments.

Famous people

Yeisk gave Russia dozens and hundreds of outstanding personalities. You can name such names as I.M. Poddubny, six-time world champion in classic wrestling. The first hero of the Soviet Union, military pilot A.V. Lyapidevsky, who took part in the rescue of the Chelyuskin expedition. B.I. Thor is an artist, architect, Lenin Prize laureate who designed the Kremlin Palace of Congresses and the Olympic Sports Complex. S.F. Bondarchuk is an outstanding actor and director, whose film "War and Peace" was the first among Russian films to receive the Oscar award. People's Artist N.V. Mordyukova and many others.

250 kilometers north of Krasnodar, at the base of the Yeisk spit, is a glorious resort town with a population of just under one hundred thousand people. The fifth city in terms of population in its region, Yeysk opens its doors to tourists from literally all points of our vast country. Low housing prices, in contrast to the resorts of Sochi, make it a more attractive tourist center of the southern regions of the Russian Federation.

The official name of the city is the Yeisk urban settlement. Despite its short existence (the city was founded in 1848), the history of the city is extremely colorful and interesting. But before you start talking about the history of this wonderful resort town, you need to answer the question that interests most people “ where is Yeisk».

Studying the peculiarities of the geographical position of the city, first of all, it should be noted that the city is the most northern in the Krasnodar Territory, therefore the expression appeared that the Kuban begins from Yeisk. Also remarkable is the fact that the city is located 172 kilometers from Rostov-on-Don and 247 kilometers from Krasnodar. The city is located at the northern end of the peninsula, which is located at the base of the Yeisk spit. The city is washed on the western side by the Taganrog Bay of the Azov Sea, on the eastern side by the Yeisk estuary - the largest estuary in the North Caucasus (territory over 244 square kilometers). Another interesting feature of the city is that the distance from Moscow to Yeisk is exactly 1000 kilometers, and the distance from Tokyo is 8000 kilometers. Such a round number of distances to the two largest world capitals is inherent only in this southern resort town.

The climate of the city is as similar as possible to the climate of the American city of New York. The differences in the weather conditions of these two cities are the lower precipitation in Yeisk and the sharper change in temperatures in New York. The average temperature in December is -1.1 degrees Celsius, and the frost is in January, when the air cools down to an average of -4 degrees. However, severe Russian winters are known, when the temperature in Yeisk dropped to -31 degrees, which was actually something incredible. The average thermometer value in Yeisk in summer rarely rises above 30 degrees Celsius. Thus, we can say that it is warm where Yeisk is.

Yeisk history

The history of the glorious city of Yeisk dates back to the end of the 18th century, when the Crimean Khan Shagin-Girey decided to create the so-called Khan's town. It was supposed to act as a reserve capital and residence of Shagin-Girey. Even then, the small town became famous throughout the Russian Empire. At these walls, in the presence of the troops of the great commander Alexander Suvorov, a manifesto on the annexation of Crimea, the western Kuban and Taman to Russia was read.

With the development of navigation and shipping in the Russian Federation, the construction of new seaports was required. One of the potential places most suitable for the construction of a new seaport is the peak of the Yeisk Peninsula. In 1847, the ataman of the Black Sea Cossack army Grigory Rashpil proposed to build a city at the base of the Yeisk Spit. The proposal was supported by the Caucasian governor - His Serene Highness Prince Mikhail Semenovich Vorontsov. By the joint efforts of two significant political figures, by decree of the Emperor of the Russian Empire Nicholas I, dated March 6, 1848, a decision was made "On the construction of the city of Yeisk within the Black Sea army."

The border position promised good economic development for Yeisk. The presence of the seaport promised broad development prospects both for the city and for the entire region of the Yeisk Peninsula as a whole. Unfortunately, no one canceled the truth about the two sides of the same medal, and Yeisk, due to its sea location, became the first city to come under attack if a naval aggression begins in the North Caucasus. And so it happened with the beginning of the Crimean War of 1853-1856, when the British squadron began shelling the city. It is believed that every tenth house in the city was damaged.

After the end of the war, the development of the city resumed, new schools and gymnasiums began to open. Already in 1875, regular electric lighting was installed in Yeisk. By the beginning of the 20th century, the city was turning into a cultural and commercial center of southern Russia. It is not surprising that at the beginning of the great October revolution, a fierce struggle was fought for this southern town. A powerful wave of revolutionary mood swept from north to south and could not help but bypass Yeisk in its expansion. All Cossack villages on the Yeisk Peninsula took the side of the Whites. The city itself took the side of the Reds and a long struggle for power began. In total, power in the city passed from hand to hand 6 times. On July 21, 1918, the whites managed to seize power in the city, but already in 1920 the Bolsheviks recaptured Yeisk and the confrontation for power ceased.

Yeisk is a hero city!

After the Bolsheviks came to power in the city, the construction of large factories began, among which the Molot and Selkhozpechat were especially significant. In the thirties of the twentieth century, a military flight school appeared in the city, in which more than 300 heroes of the Second World War were brought up. Thus, hero pilots appeared in the USSR where Yeisk is today.

During the Second World War, Yeisk was subjected to fierce German airstrikes. So, in 1942 on April 22, German aircraft carriers scattered a leaflet around the city instead of bombs, in which they wrote: “Don't make pies, don't knead dough. You won't find a place on the 23rd. " It is not surprising, but on April 23, the strongest German bombing in the history of the city began, which claimed the lives of several dozen people. Hundreds of buildings were damaged.

Today Yeysk is a famous resort town in Russia, its population is constantly growing (as of 2013, the population was 86 310 people). The influx of tourists to this city is also constantly increasing.
