A memorable post for me personally. For the first time I visited inside a giant hospital on the water, which is familiar to every resident of Vladivostok. This ship is an unofficial symbol of Vladivostok, for many years it occupied a permanent place at 33 berth in the Golden Horn Bay and served as a kind of business card. A medical vessel of the type "320 Ob" began to be commissioned by the Navy of the USSR starting in January 1981.

This floating hospital was not alone. A total of 4 such ships were built: Yenisei, Ob, Svir and Irtysh - one each for the Baltic, Northern, Pacific and Black Sea fleets.

Currently, only the Yenisei, based in the southern bay of Sevastopol, the Irtysh, the Pacific Fleet and the Svir, which is now preparing for modernization, have survived from the entire series. GS Ob until 2008 was at the pier of the Dalzavod in Vladivostok and rumored to be spent on nails. “Yenisei” distinguished itself during the Georgian-Abkhaz war of 1992, having transported 7,000 refugees in a month. In total, during his service, the ship visited 3 oceans, having conducted 200 operations in the Mediterranean alone.

The ship is obliged to perform 4 functions: treating wounded or sick sailors, evacuating people from ships if necessary, organizing crew rest and supplying medical equipment for units and formations of the fleet.

The objectives of the hospital ship "Irtysh", are now: receiving, distributing, providing medical assistance to the wounded, sick and injured in peacetime or during hostilities; evacuation of victims from ships and vessels; organization of events for the rest of crews of ships and submarines at sea.

The hospital is able to receive the wounded and sick, both from the shore and at sea. For this, two ladders are provided on each side, an electric crane for lifting six injured on the platform at once, a medical boat and a helicopter. The medical unit is concentrated directly in the middle of the ship to reduce pitching from sea unrest.

The air conditioning system provides favorable conditions in all areas of the ship. The hospital consists of: surgical, resuscitation, therapeutic, infectious, dermatological and admission departments, intensive care units, wards for patients, X-ray room, diagnostic center, pharmacy and medical warehouse.

On board the ship for patients deployed 100 seats, and during the mass reception of patients up to 450. There are also 200 places for rehabilitation purposes. All medical facilities are equipped with the necessary equipment.

In 2016, the modernization of the ship's equipment began, the first phase of which was completed in August. After that, the ship made a long voyage, taking part in ASEAN international exercises off the coast of Thailand. In their course, actions were taken to provide assistance during natural disasters. Irtysh is designed in such a way that all its operating rooms are located below the waterline, therefore it doesn’t even shake it up in great excitement, operations can be done even in a five-point storm.

8.

New surgical tables have been set up recently. They allow you to do all kinds of operations, including the most complex. Some new equipment, for example, in this intensive care unit has already been tested, as they say, in practice.

This seemingly unpresentable box is actually a mini-operating room. With its help, you can not only save the life of the patient, but also accelerate the healing of stitches.

“In some operations, I had to make access to 20 centimeters. Here, operational access will be about a centimeter. This leads to the fact that the very next day we can pick up the wounded. And after two or three days this patient can fulfill his immediate duties. "

Russian naval hospitals - the Svir and Yenisei vessels - will be back in operation in the coming years after renovation and modernization, the Main Military Medical Directorate of the Ministry of Defense told Gazeta.ru.

Hospital courts are subject to special international requirements to ensure that they are not hit by anyone as hostile. In particular, such vessels should not be used for military purposes and should have a clear indication that it is a hospital vessel (usually a white flag with a red cross is used). In addition, such ships should not interfere in hostilities or obstruct enemy combat ships. And most importantly - the ship must provide medical assistance to representatives of any nation.

“Hospital ships Svir and Yenisei will undergo repairs and will return to service in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Marine hospital clinics could be used to conduct medical examinations of military personnel in the Arctic, provide dental, gynecological and other aid, evacuate seriously ill patients, and medical rehabilitation, ”Gazeta.Ru was told in GVMU.

The Russian Navy had four (one for each of the fleets: Northern, Baltic, Pacific and Black Sea) built in Soviet times in Poland by hospital ships: Yenisei (currently stands in the southern bay of Sevastopol); “Irtysh” (serving in the Pacific Fleet, currently went to the coast of Thailand to participate in the international humanitarian exercise among representatives of the states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, ASEAN); Ob and Svir (they are part of the Northern Fleet and took part in the medical support of the expedition to raise the Kursk nuclear submarine).

Note that, for example, the Yenisei vessel was designed for 200 vacationers in a dispensary and 100 patients. During emergency evacuation, the ship is able to take on board 450 people at a time. The sick and wounded were delivered to the ship using the Ka-27 ship search and rescue helicopter. The total displacement of the vessel is 11,620 tons. Full speed - up to 19.5 knots.

The ship is equipped with a surgical department with three operating rooms, intensive care, therapeutic and reception departments, intensive care unit, a ward for patients, an X-ray room, a diagnostic center, an ultrasound scan, a pharmacy, a clinic and a medical warehouse. For leisure activities and sports on board there is a cinema and concert hall, a sports hall with exercise machines and tennis, volleyball and indoor soccer courts, a swimming pool, a bathhouse with a sauna, a shooting gallery and a relaxation lounge.

The first two hospital ships - Ob and Yenisei - were transferred to the Navy in 1980, and two more (Irtysh and Svir) were built according to the amended design with a displacement increased to 11,875 tons and transferred in 1989-1990 .

Today, military doctors emphasize that naval hospital clinics are needed by the navy, since an operational squadron is deployed on a regular basis in the Mediterranean Sea, and the Russian Navy ships are constantly located in the Gulf of Aden, where they are fighting piracy. In addition, according to the Ministry of Defense, such ships are of particular importance in connection with the events in Syria.

“The presence of one hospital ship in the specified region solves all issues of medical support for ship crews. In addition, the Arctic is developing at an accelerated pace, including the presence of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation there along the Northern Sea Route, ”explained Gazeta.Ru in the military medical department, emphasizing that a number of garrisons are located on remote islands .

The fact that floating hospitals require repair and modernization, Admiral Victor, the ex-commander of the Navy, spoke now three years ago. “They need repairs and modernization. This decision was made by the Minister of Defense, and we will implement it. Hospital ships can be involved in solving the problems of operational connection in the Mediterranean Sea, ”Chirkov said in an interview in 2013.

At the moment, the modernization has only been completed at the Irtysh - new modern medical equipment has been installed on it. There is no official information about the fate of the Ob ship, but according to media reports, some time ago, the issue of selling the ship to unknown businessmen was discussed.

The United Shipbuilding Corporation () today does not have information on which shipyard the Ministry of Defense plans to repair hospital ships and what new capabilities they will be equipped with. Nonetheless

uSC official told Gazeta.Ru that “there are plans in the long-term planning documents for the construction of new hospital ships.”

“However, their implementation is within the competence. Currently, USC enterprises do not have orders for the design and construction of hospital ships for the new project, ”the source added.

Earlier, one of the Russian sailors who had studied on the Mistral type helicopter carrier that was never transferred to Russia, told Russian Gazeta that on French ships “everything was done for the people.” In particular, he really liked the gym on Mistral, but the helicopter carrier’s medical unit made a special impression on the sailor: “It’s a very good medical unit with equipment for dentists and surgeons, you can even give birth there, but you can also transport refugees to Mistral, you never know what will happen, ”the sailor explained. The Mistral helicopter carriers did not enter Russia, as is well known, but it is possible that the capabilities available on these ships will be realized on new-generation Russian ships, as well as during the modernization of ships already in the Navy.

18 thousand nautical miles behind: on June 6, the Irtysh hospital ship returned to Vladivostok from long voyages. The ship performed tasks in the waters of the oceans for more than four months: it assisted the sailors of the Black Sea Fleet off the coast of Syria, and also visited the ports of Malaysia and Vietnam.

The hospital ship "Irtysh" went on a long voyage on January 27, visited the waters of the Pacific and Indian Oceans, passed through the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean Sea, where it subsequently assisted the Black Sea Fleet in medical support.
