Registration procedure and conditions for obtaining entry permits

The visa application process consists of the following steps:

  1. Preparation of all necessary documents.
  2. Filling out a visa application in electronic form.
  3. Sign up to submit documents (if required).
  4. Submitting biometric data and a package of documents at the consulate or visa center.
  5. Receive your passport with visa on the appointed day.

An appointment is required if the application will be submitted at the Slovak Embassy. There is no need to register at visa centers.

On September 14, 2015, all states that signed the Schengen Agreement introduced an additional procedure for obtaining visas - the removal of biometric data. Information is stored through the Visa Information System (VIS), through which immigration services of countries can exchange data on issued entry documents. The procedure consists of two stages - taking fingerprints and taking a digital photograph. Information is stored in VIS for five years. The application of this procedure is intended to improve the border control system.

If biometric data was not taken before September 14, 2015, the applicant must be personally present when submitting documents. If the data was taken, the presence of the applicant is not required. However, in some situations where there are doubts about the identification of the applicant, the embassy may require that the procedure be repeated.

The following are exempt from the procedure:

  • children under twelve years of age,
  • persons whose fingerprinting is physically impossible,
  • heads of state and members of national governments (as well as their official delegations and spouses), if traveling on official occasions.

If the applicant has fewer than ten fingers on his hands, the maximum number of fingerprints will be taken. The applicant must undergo this procedure during the next submission of documents if the inability to take fingerprints is temporary.

In the case where the applicant has already taken fingerprints, documents can be submitted by other persons, namely:

  • one of the family members for the entire family, if the purpose of the trip, entry and exit dates are the same,
  • a representative of an organization or institution upon presentation of a letter of trust issued by the responsible person of the sending organization, if the goal is participation in sports, cultural, scientific events,
  • by a representative of the group with a notarized power of attorney, if the purpose of the trip, entry and exit dates are the same,
  • by the applicant's representative in exceptional cases with the consent of the consul, upon provision of reasoned explanations and a notarized power of attorney.

The applicant's authorized representative does not have the right to sign the application form for him. At the discretion of the embassy, the applicant may be invited for an interview.

  • 60 euros for citizens of other countries,
  • 35 euros for children of citizens from other countries from 6 to 12 years old,

Submitting an application through a visa center requires payment of a service fee of 12 euros.

The following persons do not pay visa fees:

How long is the visa valid? Is it possible to extend it?

The validity of visas is usually limited to the number of days specified in the application. The Slovak Embassy issues visas:

  • single entry (for 1 entry) with a validity period of up to 3 months,
  • double entry (for 2 entries) with a validity period of up to 3 months,
  • multiple entry (for several entries) with a validity period of up to 90 days within six months.

Type “A” (transit) visas are usually issued for a period of up to 1 month, but you can stay in Slovakia for a maximum of 5 days. Multiple entry visas are issued only if there are documents confirming the need and validity of regular trips, the reliability of the applicant and the legality of using previously issued visas.

According to the decision of the Slovak Foreign Ministry, Russians can apply for multiple two-year visas if at least one previously issued Schengen visa was used for its intended purpose, and a five-year visa if a Slovak visa was previously used for its intended purpose.

If the applicant travels to the country for the purpose of studying at a university, he is issued a multiple-entry visa (type “D”) for a 90-day period for subsequent application for a temporary residence permit.

Why are visas denied? What should the applicant do?

Each application is considered individually. However, the embassy may refuse to issue a visa. The most common reasons for refusal are:

  • providing knowingly false information in the visa application form,
  • having a criminal record,
  • lack of evidence of the applicant’s ties to the country of residence,
  • insufficient finances,
  • lack of proof of residence,
  • request for a visa for a suspiciously short period of time,
  • previous refusals to issue a Schengen visa,
  • presence of past violations of the migration laws of other states,
  • expiration of the passport.

If an applicant is denied a visa, the consulate informs him of this in an official letter indicating the reasons for the refusal. The applicant has the right to file an appeal (the filing rules are explained in detail in the letter) or to resubmit the documents if these reasons are eliminated. However, if the consulate is reviewing the circumstances of an existing refusal, re-application may not be possible.

To visit Slovakia, citizens of all CIS countries will need a visa. It takes relatively little time to complete – 5 days. The documentation requirements are quite simple. If a refusal is received, you can file an appeal or re-apply.

To submit an application to the consular department of the embassy, it is necessary to fill out the visa application in electronic form in advance, as well as pre-register for the date and time of submission of documents for each applicant, including children, via the website:

Visa applicants are required to submit ten fingerprints when submitting their application.

Fingerprints are collected once every 59 months, except as noted below. Even though the applicant has already submitted fingerprints, the consular department must take fingerprints a second time in the following cases:

  • doubts about the identity of the applicant;
  • if it is not possible to obtain fingerprints from previous visa applications located in the unified visa information system (VIS);
  • if the poor quality of past fingerprints held by the VIS does not allow their use in a new application.

The following are exempt from the obligation to provide fingerprints:

  • children under 12 years of age;
  • persons from whom it is physically impossible to obtain fingerprints;
  • heads of state or government and members of national governments, together with their accompanying spouses, and members of their official delegation, when invited by the governments of member states or international organizations for an official purpose.

A visa application can be submitted no earlier than 3 months before the start of the planned trip.
