Blanes spain attractions. Blanes City in Spain - A Dream Journey

Just 60 km from Barcelona.

The territory in which Blanes is now located was inhabited by the Romans during the Romanization era of the Iberian Peninsula (approximately in the 2nd century BC). And from 12 to 14 centuries. the area belonged to the richest aristocratic Spanish family Blanes, who founded the city of the same name here.

Blanes is divided by a high block of lonely rock into the southern and northern parts. The southern part of the city, surrounded by gardens, is almost completely devoted to a tourist center with hotels, magnificent beaches, shops, cafes, restaurants, entertainment centers and other infrastructure. In the northern part there are residential quarters and a port supplying coastal restaurants with fresh seafood - the basis of most local dishes.

How to get there

The vast majority of tourists travel to Blanes via Barcelona. There are direct buses from El Prat Airport to the resort. But their schedule is not very convenient, and there are not so many flights. Entertainment and Attractions Blanes

The coastal zone of Blanes is typical of most coastal towns with the only difference being that the local landscape enlivens a small island off the coast. It has a small observation deck with excellent views of the panorama of the mountains along the entire resort and a cliff towering above the city, on top of which is San Juan Castle.

Walk through the botanical garden

The castle of Sant Joan towering over the city was laid in 1002. In most sources it dates from the 13th century, since it was then that its main part was built, the watchtower was completed in the 16th century. Its towers offer magnificent views of the city and the entire coast. Despite the fact that the city itself is ancient, it was at this time (12-13th century) that most of what was preserved to this day was built: the gates of the Virgin Mary, the Gothic monastery, the hospital of St. Jaume, Capuchin Monastery of St. Anne, Viscount Palace of De Cabrera, Gothic-style San Joan well, Gothic fountain and old chapel of St. Barbara.

If you want to see the oldest city on the Spanish coast, visit picturesque beaches surrounded by cliffs, and walk along the beautiful promenade in the evening, you should definitely go to the southern coast of the Costa Brava, to Blanes. What to see

Despite the fact that Blanes is the oldest city in Spain, and its history goes back more than a dozen centuries, it is not overloaded with any historical sights. And yet, here, as throughout Europe, the remains of medieval culture have been preserved. First of all - this is the tower of San Juan, the construction of which dates from the XI-XII centuries. It offers a magnificent panoramic view of the city and surroundings. Nearby is the ancient chapel of St. Barbara, made in the Romanesque style. The fountain of San Joan, built in the 15th century, is considered a model of Catalan Gothic. It is a stone octagonal tower with a pointed spire and gargoyle figures.

The city has a large number of cathedrals and churches. The most outstanding is the church of Santa Maria, founded in the 14th century. This building is striking in its grandeur and beauty. Another relic is the Monastery of the Capuchin Order of St. Anne, built in the Gothic style. During the Civil War, the monks left the monastery, but not so long ago, the building and the adjacent territory of the park were reconstructed. Today - this is a great relaxation area for tourists and residents of Blanes. The greatest number of samples of the centuries-old history of the city is concentrated in the area of the “Old City”. Here are typical and, in their own way, bewitching, ancient narrow streets, strolling along which you immerse yourself in the atmosphere of past centuries. This harmonious mix of the Middle Ages with modernity captivates and captivates even sophisticated travelers.

A must-see is the Marimurtra Botanical Garden. It is rightly considered one of the most beautiful places not only in Spain, but throughout Europe. The huge diversity of the plant world is truly impressive and amazing. The garden is divided into three zones: temperate flora, Mediterranean and subtropical. The abundance of all kinds of flowers, trees and cacti will undoubtedly appeal not only to lovers of botany, but also to all lovers of beauty. Here you can visit India, Spain at the same time, and after a hundred meters go back to the Japanese environment. Each plant has a card that indicates the name, characteristics of the species and family to which this specimen belongs. In the depths of the garden, there is the opportunity to relax on benches in cozy gazebos, enjoy the aromas of flowers and admire the magnificent views that open from a hill on the rocky coast of the Costa Brava.

Not far from the city is the world's largest cactus botanical garden - Pinha de Rosa, founded in 1945 by Fernando Riviera de Caralt. Here, a large-scale collection of the genus of succulents is collected, which in addition to cacti includes aloe, agave, liptos, etc. In total, the garden has more than 8 thousand species of plants from all over the world, its area is about 50 hectares. There are all conditions for an interesting pastime with the whole family: you can walk along the shady alleys, relax on the benches or visit the cafe. Children will like a small but very picturesque pond with lots of swimming fish.

Relaxation

Blanes is a universal resort, and despite its small size, there are a huge number of hotels, cafes, restaurants, bars and shopping centers, everyone will find something to their liking: shopping, exploring historical monuments, walking through unique botanical gardens, parks and an elegant promenade. Many tourists come here for a relaxing beach holiday. The subtropical Mediterranean climate with a large number of sunny days creates favorable weather for relaxing in Blanes throughout the year, despite the fact that its geographical position causes frequent winds. The four-kilometer coast of the city is divided by a rocky ledge, forming several magnificent beaches. In the central part of the city they have all the necessary infrastructure: fresh water showers, toilets, umbrellas, sun loungers, changing rooms. For active water recreation, you can find scooters, jet skis, equipment for windsurfing and sailing everywhere. Every year, local beaches are awarded the Blue Flag for cleanliness and comfort.

Tourists coming to rest with their children should definitely visit the popular Dolphinarium and Marineland Water Park. It is located outside Blanes, but getting to it is not difficult. The time spent here will be remembered for a long time by vivid impressions for both children and their parents. On a large territory of 64 thousand square meters there are many attractions, water slides, labyrinths, serpentines and areas for active recreation with the whole family. In the dolphinarium you can watch interesting performances with the participation of sea lions, seals and dolphins, take photos with sea inhabitants in memory of Blanes. You can buy small gifts for relatives and friends in numerous souvenir shops. The water park is open from May to September.

For over a hundred years, Blanes has been one of the most exciting entertainments of the international festival of fireworks, held in the summer at the end of July. During the celebration, the city turns into a fairy tale and for a whole week its night sky is lit up with thousands of bright flashes of the most intricate fireworks. This stunning sight will remain a bright spot in the treasury of your memory, as, indeed, a visit to the oldest Catalan city.

In my opinion a resort town Blanes in Spain is one of the most balanced. That is why those who are looking for a comfortable holiday on the sea in Spain from year to year choose Blanes - reviews of tourists are almost always positive.

It’s especially good to come to Blanes during off-season, in May or September. At this time, there are very few tourists, the prices in hotels are moderate, the weather is steadily sunny and even the sea is quite suitable for swimming.

What to see in Blanes

The business card of Blanes is the promenade, it stretches along the sea for 4 kilometers. This is the main attraction and a favorite place for the promenade for locals and the rest of the public.

And near the observation deck there is an excellent one - there will be time to look at the plants and appreciate the gorgeous views of the bay De Sa Forcanera.

Cliff Sa Palomera divides the Blanes promenade into two halves. It is a kind of tourist symbol. All tourists rush to climb a cliff to take a photo or fix romantic locks “on love” on the railing.

Northern part of the beach Blanes reserved for the port. There is a convenient marina for yachts and fishing piers. Near the port there is an old and new fish exchange, where in the morning fishermen sell their catch to local restaurateurs.

The old part of Blanes perfectly preserves the color and unique Spanish charm. Take a walk along the deserted narrow streets during a siesta, and then return there later in the evening.

Vacations in Blanes - reviews of tourists

Andrey (Krasnodar) - for the first time we arrived in Blanes on a tour, and now every June we go here on our own. The main thing - here you need to book your apartment early. Blanes - not rubber :)

The Spaniards, decorating their homes and streets, create a unique cozy atmosphere throughout the city.

An interesting feature of Blanes - the majority of waiters in cafes and restaurants are men with aristocratic manners :)

In the heat in local cafes it is worth trying “sandy” - beer with lemon, or to please yourself with a delicious ice-cold tasting in the evening. Close in the evening :)

Another local specialty is Blanes has the World's Most Impudent Pigeons. Brave birds are not afraid of tourists, they can easily trample on your feet and defiantly check the contents of your cans :)

On the Iberian Peninsula lies one of the most beautiful countries - Spain - the city of Blanes is one of its pearls. It is located in the north-east of the country and belongs to the province of Girona, autonomy of Catalonia. Just 60 kilometers from it lies the majestic Barcelona, where you can get on a direct train. It is not large in size, and the population living in it is also small - only 40,000 people.

Blanes History - From Village to Resort

It is officially recognized as the oldest city on the Costa Brava. It is scientifically proven that at the end of III BC this place was a settlement. And the name "Blanes" was first mentioned in documents in 1002 (at that time the Forkdelp Castle was built). About 200 years (from the 12th to the 14th centuries), the aristocratic surname Blanes ruled the settlement.

During the wars, especially the civil war, the city was badly destroyed, but later rebuilt. The formation of Blanes as a tourist center began after the end of World War II. The population has increased dramatically due to the flow of migration from the internal regions of Spain. This made it possible to become not only a famous recreation center, but also a large port city.

The climate in this region is temperate and rather peculiar. It is very warm, as the temperature in the daytime can reach 35 degrees, but windy. In addition, significant temperature differences are also not uncommon (in winter it can drop to 0 degrees Celsius). However, sunny days prevail overcast. The city itself is divided by a rock located in the sea into the Northern and Southern parts.

In which cities of Russia service and visa centers of Spain work - By applying for a visa yourself you can save.

If you are in Blanes, be sure to visit. Even adults leave there impressed.

What to see for a tourist?

Tourists coming to Blanes have the opportunity not only to soak up the beach, but also to see the local attractions.

Fans of history and architecture will no doubt be attracted by the ancient Viscount residence of Cabrera. Unfortunately, this building was not preserved, but even its ruins make it possible to present all the splendor of the building.

The Spaniards are a very religious people, so all the churches in the area simply can not be counted. The Basilica of St. Barbara stands out from this mass, it was erected in the Romanesque style, and the time of its construction dates back to the distant XII century.

Since the 15th century, a Gothic style fountain has been preserved, erected in the very center of the city. In general, the highlight of this city is a game of contrasts, when huge and chic hotels and hotels are crowded in the narrow streets that have come since the Middle Ages.

After exploring the architectural masterpieces and walking along the streets, rest in the park will not be superfluous. There are 2 of them in Blanes. This is a pair of the Marimurtra and Pinia de Rosa botanical gardens. Of particular note is the first of them, which is originally divided into 3 zones:

 1. Subtropical;
 2. Tropical;
 3. Mediterranean

Each of them, in turn, is also divided into zones, but in accordance with the regions: Japan, Canary Islands, Mexico and others. These two gardens have a huge collection of plants. In general, the sights of Blanes will not leave anyone indifferent.

Here's a short video showing all the beauties of Marimurtra Park in Blanes:

Where is better to settle?

There are many hotels in the city, for every taste. Naturally, the cost of living is different. You can find hotels with one star or four. But most hotels are three-star. However, given the level of service, we can confidently say that it is much higher than in the same domestic hotels, to which most tourists from the CIS are accustomed.

For example, three-star hotels offer personal rooms not only with a bedroom, but also with a kitchen, a living room and a balcony. The rooms have all the necessary appliances (TVs, microwaves, etc.). Hotels have their own gardens and pools. All hotels are located near the sea, which is about 5 minutes walk. And there are also a lot of shops and other outlets near them where you can buy everything you need.

As a rule, municipal parking lots are located near the places of residence, where you can put a car. The price per day will be about 10 €.

More specific hotel information can be easily found on the Internet. The cost of living can not be called sky-high. For example, for 40-50 € you can find a decent room, with all amenities and good service. Although prices can go up to 150 €. In this case, it all depends on the time of arrival and the place of stop.

Excursions, shopping and entertainment

From Blanes you can go on an excursion to Barcelona. Fortunately, it is nearby - only 30 minutes away. Such a favorable geographical position in many respects predetermined the heyday and popularity of the resort. But you can go to the Costa Brava, where there are many cozy places. In addition to all this, the city is located near the border of Spain and France, which also gives additional opportunities to occupy yourself.

Due to its high popularity, the infrastructure of the city is extremely developed. Many hotels, shops, cafes, restaurants, discos and the like establishments make your vacation in Blanes dynamic and unforgettable. Definitely not bored. At night the city is as noisy as during the day.

The most famous beach of the resort is Playa de sabanell, which is almost 3 kilometers of clean, yellow sand. No wonder it attracts tourists like a magnet. In this place you can just relax by renting a sun lounger or umbrella to protect from the sun. But there is also a lot of entertainment: water skiing, windsurfing, boat rental, parasailing and others.

As for the shops, in them, for a reasonable price, you can buy souvenirs, delicious Spanish wines, as well as sweets. But if there is a desire to make a large-scale shopping, then the best option would be a trip to Barcelona.

There are many small towns near Barcelona. Blanes with its promenade, markets, cozy restaurants are my favorite. There are two wonderful botanical gardens and a wonderful view of the port from the top of the mountain.

Blanes is a famous Catalan resort on the “wild” Costa Brava, on the border with the Costa Marisma. This is a pretty and calm, fairly clean and tidy town with an authentic flavor of the historic quarters, with a harbor in the center and the elegant Passeig Marina coniferous boulevard along the line of coastal hotels.

When is the best time to go to Blanes?

Blanes belongs to the province of Girona. It is called the "gates of the Costa Brava." The cozy city is located 60 kilometers from the bustling Barcelona - in the southern part of the resort coast, east of the mouth of the mountain river Tordera. There are airports in Barcelona and Girona from which planes fly to all countries of the world, including Russia.

The climate is mild Mediterranean, but the water warms up well only in mid-June. The average summer temperature is +25 - 28 ° С. The warmest month is August (+ 29 ° C). The average winter temperature is around + 14 ° C. The rainiest months are March and November. The beach season lasts from June to October.

The smallest, Triumal beach, surrounded by a picturesque landscape, is located on the northern outskirts of the municipality.

Holidays

Fireworks Festival, photo by Toni Torres

In the last week of July, the city hosts a grand eight-day international fireworks competition (Fiesta mayor) - Fiesta, dedicated to Saints Anne and Joaquim (fiestas de Santa Ana y San Joaquín).

In August, residents celebrate Festa Major Petita. Sports, music events, sailing regattas are held, and at night 5,000 people go to the 8-kilometer marathon.

Entertainment

In the town of Palafolls, near Blanes, the Marineland Dolphinarium with a water park works. There are shows of marine animals and exotic birds.

The theme “Gnomopark” is located between Blanes and the municipality of Lloret de Mar. Young tourists in a pine forest are greeted by a family of cheerful gnomes.

Boats depart from Blanes along the Costa Brava. They go to many coastal towns. Through the transparent bottom of the vessel, passengers can view marine life.

How do I save on hotels?

Everything is very simple - look not only at the booking. I prefer the search engine RoomGuru. He is looking for discounts at the same time on Booking and on 70 other booking sites.
